Jason’s babblings.

More awesome than a ten pound bag of flapjacks.

Movies and a little more DS.

A DS update: nothing. I’m not neglectful, just terribly busy at work. DS programming is easiest for me to neglect because it’s more difficult to pick up and put down after only 2-3 hours. When I get started on a programming project I usually get into the zone after an hour. Breaking that concentration soon after that is really frustrating. So there it is - on the back-burner until I’m finished at Borders, which is slated for early June. What I can start up and stop in my few hours of free time are movies; and I’ve partaken quite a bit in the recent past.

The most obvious recent one to force my opinions on you all is Spiderman 3. I liked it, but not as much as the 2nd one; that’s almost a cliché. The CG was decent but noticeable. Venom was pretty cool. Sandman had a great storyline but the acting was kinda dull. One thing I couldn’t get enough of is the classic Raimi zoom-ins and usage of Bruce Campbell. <3 Evil Dead and AoD!

Next up to the chopping block is, well, Next. Recommended to me by the same guy who told me about Jonathan Coulton, I figured I’d give it a chance. It was really quite dumb but the ticket was only five bucks so I’m not regretful. The movie starts like you started a book on chapter 2, it stops before the movie is really over (really), and the dialog is atrocious. There are a ton of holes as far as the time travel/clairvoyance is concerned as well, but it’s hard to write a story on that subject and cover all the bases so it’s a tiny bit excusable.

An Evening With Kevin Smith 2: Evening Harder; If you haven’t seen the first one, they are movies about a very long-winded Kevin Smith doing Q&A sessions at various schools and theaters. He tells stories about behind-the-scenes at his movies, comic books, other people in the movie business, and even his personal life. The stories are really entertaining and I highly recommend them both if you enjoy Kevin Smith and his movies, and you don’t mind listening to a guy talk about himself for four hours.

Hot Fuzz was hilarious as expected. Not really as awesome as Shawn of the Dead, but hilarious in its own right. There’s not much I can say that the trailer doesn’t.

Finally, Layer Cake deserves a mention. An English gangster movie by the producers of Snatch and Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels. It doesn’t have nearly as many comedic elements as the two aforementioned movies, which kinda let me down a bit, but it’s worth a watch anyway. It stars Daniel Craig, Sienna Miller (the hot chick from Keen Eddie who isn’t in the movie nearly long enough), and a bunch of other people I’ve seen in other movies but can’t remember their names.

Man, I need to run through Keen Eddie again. Why Fox canceled it is beyond comprehension.
